Dispelling Common Myths About How to Reduce Weight

Lose weight naturally and effectively. Stop falling for common myths about weight loss. Eliminate calorie counting, low-fat preparations / pre-packaged foods, dangerous diet pills and expensive dietary supplements. Here’s what you need to know about how to reduce weight by working WITH your body, not against it.

Here are two common misconceptions about weight loss, how you can avoid them, and suggestions to help you learn how to reduce weight more effectively for better health.

Myth 1. how to reduce weight by counting calories

If you eat fewer calories than those you burn, it creates a caloric deficit, and therefore the body will burn stored fat. The number of calories you need per day is calculated based on height, weight, age and sex. Calorie counting devices tell you how much of a particular food you can eat. This is done manually or generated through calorie counting websites that create meal plans based on food choices. This system of weight loss is popular because it allows you to eat ANYTHING you like so long as you stay within (or under) the daily preset calorie limit. Since ingesting fewer calories and eating less in general will create a calorie deficit, many people temporarily lose weight and offer testimonials about the best calorie counting systems. Why is this not a healthy or permanent way to lose weight? Because this method of weight loss focuses on “calories” as fuel not on food value, nutrition, vitamins, cell rejuvenation ability, colon, liver or heart health, or taking into account how the body’s elimination process works through the bowels, circulatory and lymphatic systems. When you count calories here’s what happens:

Let’s say you’re on a 1500 calorie diet (or a plan that helps you stay below 2000 calories per day). You start the day with a bowl of oat bran (230 calories) and low fat milk (143 calories), then for lunch you eat a small low fat hamburger (280 calories) and a lettuce salad with low fat dressing (50 calories). For dinner you have a lean chicken or turkey sandwich ( 400 calories) and a baked potato (278 calories) and a serving of low fat yogurt with chopped chives and seasoning (100 calories) and another small salad with low fat dressing (50 calories) and a small fruit cup for desert (70 calories). That’s a total daily intake of about 1,600 calories. If you normally consumed double the calories you’ll likely lose weight. But think about this:

  • What have you given your body nutritionally?
  • How will your body eliminate the waste?
  • How have you helped your circulation or lymphatic system be more effective?
  • How have you aided your colon be better equipped to get rid of waste matter?
  • What have you offered your body to help eliminate subcutaneous fatty deposits accumulated over years of eating exactly the same foods only in different quantities?

The hamburger alone has delivered 121 calories of FAT, the milk and yogurt have provided the body with mucous and the supposed calcium it offers is extremely difficult for the body to absorb or utilize, while the bread, meat, potato and dressings will remain in the bowels for several days, perhaps longer. About the only useful things you’ve offered your body are the oat bran (230 calories) and the lettuce in the salad with no dressing (about 15 calories each ), and the fresh fruit cup (70 calories) which comprises just 330 calories of your total intake. The rest just weighs the body down. It’s excess baggage, nothing more!

The main problem with calorie counting weight loss methods is that very little emphasis is placed on WHERE the calories come from so long as they’re not exceeded. That doesn’t help to create a healthy elimination system, in fact, the low calorie diet plans may contain very little fresh “water content” foods, so that constipation and colon problems may be a likely eventuality.

What’s the solution?

Knowing how to reduce weight in a healthier way (without counting calories) involves a little more effort with meal planning based on fresh produce, but doesn’t mean you starve yourself, eliminate taste or satisfying foods. The same 1500 calorie diet or 1,600 calories could have come from carrot juice, leafy greens and vegetable salad, avocado dressing, olives, cold pressed olive oil, nori (seaweed) soup, fresh fruit juices and non-mucous creating almond butter / almond or soy milk, or any other combinations of non-greasy, none-dairy, nutritious WHOLE foods. The many combinations of fresh low calorie foods that are possible to choose, and are so nutritious and low in calories there’s no need to count them, is extensive and therefore doesn’t fit in this short post.

Myth 2. how to reduce weight with miracle metabolism stimulating diet pills

While many exotic WHOLE fruits and berries, as well as certain Chinese herbs, fruits, plants and teas (which are “all natural”), have long been used around the world in traditional medicinal formulas, tonics and weight loss preparations, the extracts of such things as goji, ma huang (used in epedra diet pills) and other potent extracts, sold in the west are not necessarily magical metabolism stimulants that are either safe or effective.

The reason that many traditional herbs and foods have worked for centuries has to do with the fact that they were (and still are) used as part of TOTAL body cleansing and rejuvenating therapies, or as part of a complete body balancing and immune system boosting process, or as whole foods that comprised a small part of a dietary plan, usually very different to the high protein, carbohydrate intense, refined / processed diets eaten in many western (or developed) cultures.

Simply taking a pill of an isolated ingredient normally eaten as a WHOLE food will produce different results, as seen with things such as ephedra diet pills that are so potent they may induce heart problems. While many berries, such as goji, are eaten as part as regular diet in Chinese foods and tonic soups, the idea that concentrated doses of Himalayan or Chinese goji juice will offer magical curative powers is not sound reasoning.

What’s the solution?

Balance the body! Learning how to reduce weight involves understanding how a natural herb, plant, seed or berry is traditionally incorporated into a dietary plan that delivers nutrients to various parts of the body and helps organs, circulation and elimination cycles establish an overall balance.

First, choose to cleanse your body, flush the colon, detox the liver and then start eating whole foods and drinking fresh juices, and a lot more water than you do now.

Then you’ll be able to add goji berries to your soups, or take Chinese herbs to help your immune system and your body will be able to assimilate what you offer it, fight illnesses more efficiently and balance weight without taking the latest “magical” diet pill or counting calories.
