Weight Loss with Human Chorionic Gonadotropin HCG Diet and Injections

The facts about HCG therapy. HCG injections for weight loss have been tested and the results are conclusive. But first…

What is HCG?

HCG stands for human chorionic gonadotropin. Simply put, it’s a hormone that pregnant women produce for embryo and placenta development.

What’s its function?

HCG ensures that the body produces progesterone. When women go for a pregnancy test, it’s the presence of HCG in the blood or urine sample that indicates a positive result. It’s also thought to be one of the reasons that pregnant women experience morning sickness. It’s not surprising then that those who take HCG therapy (when not pregnant) will likely experience nausea, vomiting, mood swings, headaches, dizziness and even depression. Other side effects can include difficulty concentrating, stomach pain, bowel disorders, swelling in the extremities and may lead to having blood clots. So why is it touted as a treatment for weight loss?

Why is the HCG diet promoted for weight loss?

One of the side affects of human chorionic gonadotropin is that it triggers the brain to tell the body that it’s okay to use stored body fat to help with placenta growth and embryo development. In short, it allows a pregnant woman to provide energy for her growing fetus by burning her own fat cells. This caused a British endocrinologist, Dr. Simeons, in the 1950s, to believe that if the hormone were injected into a non-pregnant patient, the body would be tricked into burning stored fat. Is this theory true?

Do the HCG injections for weight loss actually burn unwanted fatty deposits in men and women who are overweight?

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), in an article published in November of 1976 by Lieutenant Colonel Robert Young, MC, USAF; Robert J. Fuchs, MS and Dr. Myron J. Woltjen, after a clinical study conducted on 200 participants to determine if chorionic gonadotropin helps weight control, the results were conclusive that HCG therapy doesn’t’ work as Dr. Simeons suggested. How do we know?

The study included injecting half the patients with HCG and the other with a placebo. The Dr. Simeons diet and regimen were followed perfectly in both groups. The results? The statement form JAMA is as follows: “There was no statistically significant difference between those receiving HCG vs placebo during any phase of this study.”

Was Dr. Simeons wrong about everything that concerned weight loss?

No. But about the value of HCG, yes. Part of the Simeons program included a colon cleansing diet in conjunction with the HCG injections. Later this concept was popularized by Kevin Mark Trudeau, who promoted, amongst other things, the Dr. Simeons alternative therapies, including the two phase program with organic foods to cleanse the liver and colon, followed by HCG injections to burn fat. Because a cleansing diet with organic fresh vegetables is indeed one of the best life diet plans that anyone can choose, the followers of Simeons, and later Kevin Trudeau, experienced benefits from the healthy diet – not due to HCG injections, but through a colon cleansing diet and/or very specific organic diet plans that work. Which leads us to wonder about….

Kevin Trudeau Books and Methods of Weight Loss

The Kevin Trudeau books that were popular in the 90’s and have gained popularity once again, such as, Natural Cures “They” Don’t Want You to Know About, promote two things:

  1. a valuable organic detox diet and
  2. HCG hormone injections

The HCG fat loss concept is without foundation, however, due to a diet plan that cleanses the body, many people attest that the principles outlined in the Kevin Trudeau Books are valid. While gonadotropin injections are ineffective, the diets Dr. Simeons and Trudeau propose have merit. Nevertheless, when choosing diet plans that work it’s necessary to look at the basis of the information and decide if an organic cleansing or detox diet from a more credible source might not be more beneficial. Why?

In the case of Kevin Trudeau, his books and programs claim that the United States FDA doesn’t approve alternative therapies such HCG injections because they’re profit motivated and in league with the corrupt pharmaceutical industry. While the FDA may be overly cautious when it comes to approving alternative treatments and natural remedies, in the case of human chorionic gonadotropin HCG therapy, their disapproval appears to be solidly founded. The human body hasn’t changed the way it processes HCG since the 1970’s and therefore the studies proving that HCG doesn’t work continues to be conclusive. Yet, Trudeau, apparently ignores the studies, and again offers the public a book called The Weight Loss Cure “They” Don’t Want You to Know About re-advocating Simeons HCG injections. Why does Trudeau not just promote an organic cleaning diet? Are there other reasons to distrust Kevin Trudeau Books and ideas? His track record shows that dietary supplements and controversial therapies, which he’s prompted in the past, have earned him a lot of money. What’s wrong with that? Nothing, if what he offers works. But, let’s look at a few other facts…

In the 90’s, following a conviction for credit card fraud and larceny, Kevin Trudeau paid a half million dollar fine for promoting misleading infomercials for supplements and weight loss methods. In 2004, he was barred (for life) from endorsing or promoting health or alternative medicine, supplements or weight loss products other than his own books. In the same year, the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a suite against him for contempt of court (for being in violation of the ban). What’s really behind this fiasco isn’t clear, but when it comes to choosing cleansing products, diets, lifestyle roll-models, getting advice on weight loss and seeking our own sense of wellbeing, wouldn’t it be better to look for organic diet plans and detox cleansing advice elsewhere?

While eating an organic diet, engaging in daily walking exercises that incorporate breathing techniques, and cleansing our body of toxins, are all recommended by natural healthcare professionals, HCG injections along with this lifestyle are not suggested by reliable sources.

What about the HCG fat loss products sold online?

Homeopathic HCG products that are sold online as weight control aids may be oral preparations and/or vials of hormone serum for injections. The overall list of ingredients in these preparations are not only difficult to verify, but in some cases appear to be nothing more than dilute formulations that may contain only traces of the actual hormone in question. Even if human chorionic gonadotropin HCG were an effective means to burn fat, the amount of it in these preparations (if they contain any at all) would have little or no effect in a weight loss therapy. Pills, injections and diets for quick weight loss that go in conjunction with HCG hormone therapy are not advisable. Save your money. Buy fresh organic vegetables, walk regularly, breath deeply, but leave HCG prescription products alone.
